What is Aortic Aneurysm?
An aortic aneurysm is a bulge that occurs in the aorta, the major artery that carries blood away from the heart, and our vascular specialists are highly trained in swift, life-saving interventions for this very serious condition. There are two types of aortic aneurysms, an abdominal aortic aneurysm and a thoracic aortic aneurysm. This condition requires immediate attention as it can result in an aortic dissection or an aortic tear, both of which can be fatal.
Symptoms
The symptoms of an aortic aneurysm can sometimes include chest or back pain, shortness of breath, coughing, and difficulty swallowing. The condition if often diagnosed with an ultrasound or CT scan, and treatment can consist of medications and lifestyle changes. For a more severe case, our vascular surgeons will place a stent in the artery to increase blood flow.
